Although Crested Tit (Lophophanes cristatus) (formerly Parus cristatus) is a common passerine species in Czech Republic (250 000 – 500 000 pairs), it is not as well known as the usual „bird-feeder“ Tits, the Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus, formerly Parus caeruleus) or Great Tit (Parus major). It is mostly because this small bird is bound to a forest environment and is easily overlooked hidden up in the tree tops. Experienced birdwatcher will not have problems identifying this bird

thumb Did you know... Blue Tit

Blue Tit (Parus caeruleus) is one of our best known and most common birds. And it is not only because of its abundance and its favour for bird-feeders – it is as well its unusual courage when it comes to the contact with people. I remember one afternoon during last winter when I was sitting in my room and watching birds on the feeder through the open window – one of the Blue Tits was attracted by the cracker I left on the window frame – it came to sit on the frame and then even flew inside the room and spent a little time with me. It sat on the lamp just half a meter from me hiding behind the masked camera lens...

thumbDid you know... House Martin

These short profile articles called „Did you know…“ should not only serve for presentation of some of my bird pictures but also as an ID card of each individual bird with basic facts about the described species as well as some interesting information that you maybe did not know…I do not say that I know these facts better but internet is a powerful tool of today and it is sometimes worth just to enter the name of the bird into the search engine and read through the found articles. It is also kind of ornithology class for me as I am still rather a birding beginner...
